Do any Cincinnati neighborhoods have pedestrian-friendly mini “downtown” areas?
I am going to Cincinnati for the first time on Saturday and I would like to find a neighborhood there that is safe and has a little mini “downtown” area that you can walk around in (pedestrian friendly) with stuff like cafes, coffee shops, bookstores, boutiques, thrift stores, antique stores, record stores, hole-in-the-wall pubs, etc. I’m not so much looking for the hoity-toity expensive snooty areas, but rather a casual kick-back funky progressive sort of atmosphere. Are there any neighborhoods like that? So far, the only one that has been recommended to me is Clifton. Is that a safe place? Thanks everyone!
I have 2 places that others havent mentioned for you. The first would be Mt. Adams. Its a very cool part of town- coffee shops, restaurants and bars, book shops, etc. Its also a very large hill,. and has some great views of the city, including a nice park with a great overlook. Its pretty safe. The other is, if you want to head out of town a bit, a town called Lebanon, which is just up I71. Its an old historic town. It has a very cool downtown, complete with Ohio’s oldest Inn (The Golden Lamb, numerous Presidents have stayed there, as well as Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and its reputedly haunted, it has a good restaurant and bar as well), a number of antique shops, coffee houses, bars, restaurants, a local chocolateer, a historic train you can ride, a local ice cream parlour, and more. Its really a great little town.
