How can I get started in historical reenactment?
Hi there! I’m really into history and I want to start participating in events where I can dress up in ‘antique’ clothes and meet other people who like to do the same. 
What resources are the best for finding events around your area? Is sewing a necessary skill? Obviously the Renaissance and Civil War reenactment is the most popular, but I’m particularly interested in Edwardian era, 1920s and World War 2.
I’ve found that trying to find one complete site on how to get started is just impossible! If anyone has any ideas, let me know
Try the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). Yes, most of the members feature characters of the Renaissance era, but they often are open to any time period, depending on the size of the group in your area. Even if they aren’t catering to your time period, they can usually point you to activities going on in your area that you might be interested in, and they provide tips as to how you can get started on creating your character. Of course, you could also start your own group if you find enough other people in your area that are interested!
Sewing is definitely not a requirement of being an historical reenactor. There are TONS of places online where you can buy costumes or patterns (if you find someone to do your sewing for you), and you can be as simple or as complex in your costume as you like.
