antique fork? is it really old and about how old? please tell me.?
i have a fork that my papaw found out in the yard from an old old house… it was in the ground!
it has 2 sharp points and on the top it has a cross of 2 keys and a crown on top of it. at the bottom of the keys it has a face like thang, but cant tell because its worn down, at the bottom of that it has wings goin up. it has cool designs all down it and it looks to be hand made. i thank its real silver and it has small flowers on the point parts of it! at the bottom of the right fork point it has 800 written into it. please tell me if its old, how old and if its worth anythang, please! i have a new born son and tiems are hard. thanks
It is an unusual item. It sounds as if it could be silver. If it is there should be a small stamp on it, usual on the front of the fat part of the fork. Silver is not worth much. However, the thing could be taken to an antique store (and to several in fact, just to check on the honesty of those who will offer to buy it immediately) so you know where it comes from. If it has only two prongs, it could be a 17th century piece, but it’s hard to tell without a picture. At best it is an interesting museum piece worth $500 at most. After you have found out more about this piece from the antique stores, you might want to try Ebay – in case you can sell it for more than they offer.
In ANY case, DO NOT clean it up. Some of its value could come from its wear-and-tear.
I would not, however, base my child’s education investment in the money I would get from this.
