Things to do in San Antonio?

Me and my wife are going to san antonio next week. I was wondering if someone could tell me what there is to do down there. I would like good answers, I don’t want websites. And Don’t mention sea world or fiesta texas. we are more into antiques, museums, malls, unique shops. stuff like that, and also some scenic things. like caves, nature walks and etc. Thank You.

The Alamo is quote the tourist trap. There is some interesting history there, but you have a hoards of people there too. but at least it’s free. The Riverwalk is ok, a little overrated, but it’s a nice walk if there’s not too many people. They have tour barges that go up and down the river and it’s ok, but they probably overcharge (Bexar county residents get a discount).

A nice historical, less crowded idea is to check out the Mission Trail that starts south of town. It’s the original spanish missions like Mission San Jose, that are located along the banks of the San Antonio River. You’ll need a car or you can take the Via bus to the first couple of missions. i believe they’re free to explore. The trail is like 17 miles or more and includes around 304 old churches/missions that are quite beautiful. You can ride your bikes along the trail, I might do it this weekend since the weather is going to be beautiful on Saturday 75 degrees and sunny. Just google San Antonio Mission trail and ignore the baseball team information.

There’s Natural bridge caverns is 15 miles north of San Antonio in New Braunfels where you can explore a really old cave, there’s a lot of stuff liek that in the hill country, but since you want to know about the city proper, there’s the San Antonio Bontanical gardens off Funston, which is nice around this time. The museums here aren’t that great, but the McNay museum houses an eclectic collection and is on pretty grounds.

There are a few parks in San Antonio, Brackenridge is closer to downtown and has a train that takes you around the park. It’s next to the zoo and the Japanese tea gardens (free) that have koi ponds and various plants. McAllister park in north central has a dog park and lots of walking trails.

There’s lots of shopping in San Antonio, Rivercenter Mall downtown isn’t that great. There are 2 new and huge shopping centers north on IH 10 andloop 1604 (the Rim and La Cantera) where they have lots of high end stores. North Star mall has better stores than Rivercenter and is closer than the other shopping areas. near north central.
