pottery mark made in Portugal authorized copy, need help identifying mark.?
Hi, I found this piece of pottery or very large bowl, that has made in portugal authorized copy on bottom along with these markings H G the H has two lines like this __ one on top of the H and one on the bottom __ of the H, along with this number xviv everything is scratched on the bottom with some sort of tool. It’s in an antique shop so I figure it is old, I asked the gentlemen if he knew its story he say he got it from entire estate he buy. he knows nothng on it.

Hi! Portugal is known for its beautiful pottery and countless pottery factories! What this sounds like (“authorized copy”) is a piece that has met rigid artistic/manufacturing standards for reproduction by an institution.. perhaps a museum, that has permitted replicas of their collection for sale in their shop. And… typically when a dealer buys out an estate, he buys it all … whether antique or not.. to acquire the “plum” pieces he wanted. You might ask him to attempt to research it for you or try to find some information from another dealer (I don’t know what it looks like and can’t find the mark ..either in books or on-line) but the bottom line is.. if you love it.. that’s all that counts… but just know that it’s most likely true to the original.. however in age, likely vintage, at best. I hope that this helped a bit!
