Antique Peanut Machine?
I have a very old Peanut Machine which i would love to find out what company manufactured it. It is a penny machine; its made from cast iron, red in color, has a square base and a thick octagon glass top. There are no markings of any kind. Any help would be awesome. Thanks
Most manufacturers in the America of the period these were made, from the late 1800s to the 1930s, were very proud of what they made and very often, their name was prominently displayed on the machine, if not incorporated directly into the design of the metal, then on an engraved plate which was affixed to the machine, stamped or cast into the metal of the base, or a bit later on, to cut costs, on paper labels attached to the glass (which were prone to damage or being lost entirely).
If there is absolutely no identifier on the machine anywhere, you probably have one that had a paper label, and identifying it will be a lot tougher.
But all is not lost. A simple Google search for ‘vintage peanut machine manufacturers’ turned up a wealth of sites, just on the very first page of results. Most appear to be collectors looking for these machines, and some good pictures sent to a few of them might be a great place to begin. Just a minute or two spent looking revealed to me that the cast iron models are very much sought after.
