Name your favorite getaway for a little 3-5 days of SERIOUS peace and quiet?
I’d rank Mena, Arkansas’s Raspberry Manor right up there with Jenner, California’s Sea Ranch. It’s quiet. It’s secluded & and hard to find. It sits about 6 miles West of town on 60 or so acres, deep in the woods, off roads some would call questionable. The food and service is superb!! There isn’t a better place to eat in all of Arkansas. The view is spectacular – the Quachita mountains, in the Fall (colors),….attract both Texasans and the Bayou state to the South. At night, it’s so dark, the night sky is awesome!
For auto aficionados, there’s an antique car collection that specializes in Packards, Chrysler’s and Lincoln’s limited production cars. And for the gals, a year round Christmas display you won’t believe. If you want to really get some restfull peace and quiet, this is the ticket. My wife & I, & my brother and his wife went here for Valentine’s Day and all of us are still talking about it, now five years later. What’s your favorite?

My favorite place for a bit of R’n'R is the Driftwood Inn on Chincoteague Island, a tiny spot of land off the coast of Virginia’s eastern shore. October is a great time to visit: the weather’s nice (no humidity!), the “summer people” are gone, the skies (and nearby Assateague Island’s wildlife refuge) are filled with migrating birds (a bird-watcher’s paradise), there are still quite a few good restaurants open (I highly reccommend The Village), and it’s a safe and interesting place to travel by foot or bicycle.
I have stayed at the Driftwood every time I’ve been to the island and it has always been a nice experience. The rooms are clean, spacious, quiet, and come equipped with a small fridge, table and chairs for dining, and a balcony/patio that overlooks the waterway between Chincoteague and Assateague islands (you can also see the famed lighthouse from your balcony, and at night its beacon is mesmerizing to watch). There are soda/snack/ice machines, a washer and dryer for guests’ use, and a continental breakfast each morning.
I first visited Chinocteague in 1995, and have been back many times since. Each time I drive my rental car over the 175 causeway to Main Street, it feels like I’m coming home again 
(a note of caution: If you’re looking for true peace and quiet, don’t visit during the end of July. That’s when the annual Pony Swim/Auction takes place, attracting crowds of up to 100,000 people and causing hotel prices to skyrocket)
