My father bought me a doll at an art festival in Orlando, FL in 1976. I’d like to find another like it.?
We called it my “china” doll, perhaps the head, arms, and legs were made of china. The head went into a breast plate and was sewn to a sawdust filled body. The details were beautiful, with painted hair (short, black, curly), fingernails, and high heel boots. She had a purple, gauzy dress with layers of petticoats and bloomers. I do not believe she was antique at the time and antiques are all I seem to be able to find when I search. My little brother broke her arms when I was 12 so I foolishly threw her away. I am 36 now and would love to have another like her. Please help.
Nancy Walters is a doll artist living in Longwood, Florida who may have had dolls for sale around that time, She has worked in porcelain and made her own costumes. Sandra Oglesby also lives in Florida.
There are two doll artist organizations, ODACA and NIADA that may be of help; and many doll collector clubs as well. Doll people are incredibly nice and helpful.
