Does Anyone Know Much About Antique .45 Ammo?
After my grandfather passed away 7 years ago we had to sort through a lifetime of items he had collected in him basement. I came across a box of old .45 automatic cartridges. I’ve had them for some time, never intending on firing them, but have recently gotten a bit curious about them. The box is labeled 50 Cartridges Pistol Ball Caliber .45 M1911 Lot W.C. 6577 Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation. The bottom of the round is labeled W C C 6 2. I understand that these are Winchester rounds from 1962.
The main question is, are these of any value to a collector and is this a good find? Does anyone know anything more about collectible ammunition?

Those are standard issue military ball, 230 grain ammo. You are correct on the manufacture (winchester) and the year (1962).
as far as collectible? not really, commands about the same price as any commercial ball ammo right now. sorry. If it were from WW2 era or older, a lot of re enactors might want it. Possibly someone with a fetish for Viet Nam era stuff might have an interest.
I bought several cases of that stuff a few years ago from old sacramento armory for $89.00 per 1000 round case. I’m certain they would sell much higher now if I wanted to part with them.
