Antique Furniture Question.. Help please.?
Hello.
I have a dinning room set, (Hutch, Buffet, Table, and six chairs) That I am looking for information on. They are all stamped “Basic Furniture Co. No-296.” And writen in what appears to be white chalk “296/22 Vt (with a line under that, and under the line it reads) IUSH”
I have tried to look all over the internet for information, but nothing comes up. I did find a page mentioning the company at ” http://www.reedsoc.org/organs/putnamorgan.htm”
What I gatherd from that page was that the company was started by William Putnam, and first called “W.W. Putnam Co. Inc.” and later he partnerd with Herbert E. Fox, and they created Basic Furn. Co. in 1920.. I think that is correct. I know that the company was manufactured in Waynesboro, VA.. But thats about the most I can get from it.
I guess I am looking for an app. value. I can post pictures if needed. The peices are in Excellent condition. Im just wondering if they are worth anything. Can anyone help??? Thanks!
It is impossible to estimate a value without seeing it. Visual appeal means a lot in ‘vintage’ furniture without a specific pedigree. That stated, a complete set that matches is much more valuable than a stray table or hutch. Visit antique shops/malls, resale shops and flea markets. Look online at eBay, etc. View the classifieds in the paper and see what the going rate is. Start your asking price high and indicate offers considered. You can always come down and you may be pleasantly surprised.
